Delegation of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission visited Peking University and reviewed brain science research on July 13, 2015. The delegation was led by the Director of the Commission, Dr. Yan Aoshuang, and included the Deputy Director of the Commission, Mr. /Dr. Zheng Huanmin, and the directors of related offices. President of Peking University, Prof. Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the university, Prof. Wang Jie, and the Director of the IDG/McGovern Institute of Brain Science Research, Prof. Rao Yi attended the meeting.

Director Yan Aoshaung expressed her appreciation for the great progress that Peking University has made in brain science research. She pointed out that brain research posits a significant importance in interdisciplinary science and brings great values in building our society. She emphasized that Beijing government has realized the importance of brain science and its related areas, and called for cooperation across different scientific communities, aiming to solve the key theoretical and technical bottlenecks and lead to sophisticated solutions in understanding the brain, protecting the brain, and improving the brain.


President Lin Jianhua emphasized the fact that, while the tiniest breakthrough is considered to be of immense value in scientific research, there are many important questions in brain science that remains unexplored. Therefore, having realized the significance of interdisciplinary research, Peking University should play a leading role in brain science research based on a well-defined and innovation-driven infrastructure.


Faculty members from Peking University reported on the recent progress of brain science research. Professor Rao Yi summarized the research in different areas at Peking University and the leading role it can play in Beijing and China.


The delegation also visited the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Center of Peking University, where four MRI systems and a MEG system are installed. The delegation also visited the Department of Psychology and was shown with the brain research facilities in the department.
