The 21st Annual Qiu Shi Awards Presentation Ceremony, hosted by Qiushi Technology and Science Foundation and organized by Fudan University, was held at the Xie Xide Hall, Center of American Studies, Fudan University, On September 13th, 2014. One Qiu Shi Outstanding Scientist Award and ten Qiu Shi Outstanding Young Scholar Award were conferred, and Dr. Jian Li from IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU received 2014 Qiu Shi Outstanding Young Scholar Award.

Dr. Jian Li, born in 1979, graduated from NanJing University in 2000, obtained a Ph.D in Baylor College of Medicine in 2007, and a M.B.A. in New York University in 2010. He was a researcher in Department of Psychology in New York University before he came back to China. He currently is principle investigator in IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU and a researcher in Department of Psychology in PKU, and doctorial supervisor. He was selected by the Recruitment Program of Global Experts (Thousand Talents Program) in 2012, and gain funding from Excellent Young Scientists Fund supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Dr. Jian Li’s research focuses on people’s reward-related learning and decision making, as well as their cognitive neural mechanism. His previous work proved the specific role of ventral striatum, the principle projection area of dopamine, in the context of reward maximizing and extended the applicability of the dopamine reward pathway. Powerful evidence supported that reward information from different modalities is closely connected to the dopamine circuit; individuals’ overly dependency or even addition to these multi-modality reward information directly relates to the dysfunction of the dopamine circuit. His work provides theoretical guidance and supporting data to how to design effective interventions to modulate the dependency on reinforcement learning of human brain. He was awarded the Peter and Patricia Gruber International Research Award in Neuroscience, given by the Society for Neuroscience. He has authored/coauthored more than 10 papers with a citation of more than 1000 times.
