Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics Visits Peking University IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research
On April 13, 2026, Professor Ivan de Araujo, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Germany, visited the Peking University IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research. Professor Fang Fang, Vice President of Peking University, chaired the symposium, which was attended by representatives of the Institute's Principal Investigators (PIs).

During the symposium, Both sides introduced their respective institutional overviews and research progress, and exchanged views on key areas such as brain-computer interfaces, neural encoding and decoding, specialized chip design, and algorithm development. The two parties agreed that Sino-European academic cooperation has a solid foundation and broad potential, and decided to hold a PKU-Max Planck Joint Academic Symposium within the year, aiming to establish an international platform for high-level academic exchange.
During his visit, Professor Ivan de Araujo also held one-on-one academic discussions with the Institute’s PIs, exploring cutting-edge brain science technologies and directions for future collaboration. This visit further strengthened the long-term partnership between the Institute and the German Max Planck Society, expanded the Sino-German collaborative innovation network in brain science, and laid a solid foundation for subsequent research cooperation and joint talent training.
